Nearly every aspect of life as we know it has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the school system. Proms and graduations: canceled. Field trips: canceled. Sports seasons: started, then canceled, then started again. Hybrid. Distance learning. Masks and social distancing. Amid the chaos of “can’ts” and “only ifs,” two MCC senior National Honor Society seniors found a way to demonstrate resilience to adversity through their volunteerism projects.
The Greenbush-Middle River One-Act officially began its schedule with its first rehearsal on January 8, holding it via Zoom— an online meeting application— due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In just 18 days, the thespians learned their lines and prepared to perform their play, capping this period with a sub-section performance after school on the GMR School stage on January 26.
Isabella Brockhouse completed coursework and clinical hours at Stewarts School in Sioux Falls, SD. Isabella is a native of Middle River, a 2019 graduate of GMR, and was the 2017 Ms. Middle River. She is licensed for hair, skin and nails and graduated with distinction.
Spelling the word disturbance correctly, 8th grader Audrey Gust was the winner of the annual GMR Spelling Bee. The GMR EA awarded her $15 to spend at the Scholastic Book Fair this spring.
