FINDING A WAY: MCC National Honor Society Members Persevere in Volunteerism Despite COVID-19 Pandemic

Nearly every aspect of life as we know it has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the school system. Proms and graduations: canceled. Field trips: canceled. Sports seasons: started, then canceled, then started again. Hybrid. Distance learning. Masks and social distancing. Amid the chaos of “can’ts” and “only ifs,” two MCC senior National Honor Society seniors found a way to demonstrate resilience to adversity through their volunteerism projects.

To become a member of the Marshall County Central chapter of the National Honor Society, students must have and maintain a 3.5 GPA, demonstrate knowledge and experience in the four pillars of NHS (scholarship, leadership, character, and service), and fill out the application, complete with two letters of recommendation. Upon their selection and induction, they are required to complete 10-20 hours of community service out of their already busy schedules.
