Townships are the original form of government within the state of Minnesota. It consists of organized communities who govern their areas within congressional boundaries which are derived from state statutes. A township board consists of supervisors, clerk and a treasure. At the annual meeting residents of the township have the opportunity to voice their opinion in how matters are conducted, set tax levies, discuss and approve or disapprove of any or all road maintenance as well as contracts. This is why it is said to be, “Grassroots Government of Minnesota”.
