Submitted by Marshall County Historical Society One of the things we appreciate most about small-town and rural life in northwest Minnesota has to be the way we can join with our neighbors to get things done. A very successful example of this concept is a regional historical society known as The Minnesota’s Historic Northwest, which is noting its 25th birthday this summer.
“This Land is Your Land” is the theme for this year’s 13th District Horticultural Society’s Annual Horticultural Show, hosted by the Gro-Rite Garden Club. The show will be held at the Wannaska Community Center, Wannaska, MN on Saturday, August 6th. Door will be open at 10:00 a.m. Coffee and treats will be served. Entries must be made before and in place by 11:30 a.m. Judging will begin at 12:30 p.m.
Everyone is invited to celebrate Thief River Falls' 125th Anniversary (and 1), which will be at Peder Engelstad Pioneer Village in Thief River Falls, MN on Saturday, August 6th and Sunday, August 7th from 1:00 pm until 4:30 pm.
Holt Keenagers recently held their monthly meeting and BINGO. A potluck meal was enjoyed before the business meeting with 19 members attending. They are working on plans to start a game day once a month with board games and cards.
I am glad I’m not in the promoter’s shoes on those iffy rainy days. Greenbush Race Park promoter Trapper Sovde was in this situation this past Saturday. A light drizzle started early and weather radar showed light rain until mid afternoon. What the promoter has to decide is does he cancel early so the racers traveling save on fuel, or does he ride it out hoping the weather clears. Luckily the drizzle remained light and the decision was made to race and it turned out to be a beautiful night for racing.
