MRVO Hosts a Fun-Filled Fishing Trip to Lake of the Woods

The Middle River Veterans Outdoors organization hosted 26 Veterans on a fishing trip to Lake of the Woods. This 2-day and 3-night event was sponsored by Humana and provided a great time of fishing and comradery. The weather was hot but the fishing was hotter. All Veterans got their limit of fish to take home, plus souvenirs from the sponsor. Some of the fish were the size for photo and release onlyt. The Veterans who needed assistance used the track wheel chairs that MRVO has acquired and they could drive right down to the dock to get into the boat. Representing Humana were Russ Sparby and Dave Van Wagner. who also assisted with the Veterans. The Middle River MRVO organization would also like to thank Julian Abrego, Humana’s marketing department, for all the work to get Humana on board with this great event for the Veterans. The Middle River community has also supported the Middle River Veterans Outdoors in many ways. Those helping make this event happen include: Wayne Kilen, Dave Myhrer, Elroy Aune, Gene Folden and Lynette Berg.

Two Local Wildlife Organizations Meet in Middle River for Annual Dinners

Every year about this time, the terms “Minnesota Deer Hunters Association” and “Ducks Unlimited” are two common terms floating around Middle River. That’s because these two pro-hunting organizations both hold their yearly dinners in Middle River in the fall of the year. This year the local Minnesota Deer Hunters Association gathered at the Middle River American Legion for their dinner and fundraiser on Friday, October 22. The next evening, October 23, the Ducks Unlimited gathered at the Wheel for their dinner fundraiser. Both groups can be described as a public organization advocating wildlife and hunting. Each of these organizations have a definite purpose as their cornerstone.

Hand Washing

Monica Byre from Northwest Community Action presented a lesson on handwashing to the Badger kindergarten class. Monica showed how to make handwashing part of the boys and girls daily routine. Each student took a turn washing their hands and then looking under Monica’s special “black light” to check for remaining germs and then washing hands again. Thank you Monica for reading the boys and girls a story, using puppets, and role modeling how to make handwashing a lifelong healthy habit to the Badger Kindergarten Class.
