GMR Math League is Off and Running!

Math League kicked off their season on November 2nd with the first meet. It will be a little different this year as all the meets will be held virtually through the Math League Website. The online system was overloaded when too many schools throughout the state tried to log on and the system crashed during the first meet. Luckily, GMR competed earlier in the day and everything ran smoothly for our team. But, because of the glitch, the league extended the time for schools to compete so it has taken longer to get our division and section results.

Math League has four different events, A-D and a team event. The Varsity Scoring Team consists of 8 students and each student has to participate in 2 events, with no more that 4 students per event, and no more that 6 students above 10th grade. In the individual events, Event A consists of Algebra topics, Event B consists of Geometry topics, Event C consists of Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus topics, and Event D consists of Advanced Algebra/Analysis topics. Each individual event has 4 questions and worth a total of 7 points. A student’s raw score is up to 14 points for a meet. The Power Ranking Score is determined by a formula to award students who answer a question correctly that wasn’t answered from others in the event. The Team Event has 6 questions, each worth 4 points each, for a total of 24 possible points. For this season, No Calculators are allowed on the individual events but Calculators are allowed on the team event.
