Shifting Geers

Shifting Geers

As I said last week in the ultimate cliff hanger, I am going to write about the most prolific car in the Geer household. The 1979 Chevrolet Chevette. If I recall, my folks purchased this car brand new. I may be wrong on this due to the simple fact that I was born in 1979, but I think I had a few conversations with my parents about them purchasing this car brand new.

My mom drove that car for years and then I had the pleasure of using that beauty as my first whip. The benefit of that car was the Middle River Co-op always had what seemed to be a plethora of semi-bald used tires for not a whole lot of money. I don’t ever recall putting 4 tires on at once, but I would probably need a used tire on a monthly basis that the guys uptown were always able to deliver. I remember that my lawn-mowers salary was always able to afford the above-described tires. It was also a treat that a crisp $5 bill would move the gas gauge a decent amount as well.
