The highlight of a summer, some of the most memorable nights of your life before graduation, the first steps back to school-the county fair.

In the 1970s, the fair was five days around which you could build a summer. On the farm, we did not see people that often as we were all busy. The fair was a time when you could plan to spend time with friends on the midway, in the grandstand or while showing your exhibit. I would go weeks without seeing friends or talking to them. This was a time without texting when not only did young people not have a cell phone, they also needed permission to use the family phone.
