Laura Larson Roppe, 98, of Newfolden, MN, passed away on Wednesday August 22, 2018 at ManorCare, Fargo, ND with her loving family by her side. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 AM Monday, August 27, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Newfolden, MN. with Pastor Cathie Rhodes officiating. Burial followed at Opdahl Cemetery, New Maine Township, Marshall Co, MN. Visitation was held from 5-8 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Sunday August 26, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN. Laura Jennie Roppe was born November 18, 1919, at home in New Maien Township, Marshall County, MN, the daughter of Albert and Clara (Lee) Larson. She grew up in the Newfolden, MN area, and attended country school, also in New Maine Township. On December 14th, 1944. Laura was united in marriage to Roy S. Roppe at Newfolden. Together the couple farmed and raised cattle. Laura worked raising their family and yearly would travel to the Argyle area to help with the potato harvest. Laura always had a big garden and enjoyed canning a lot of her vegetables and berries. Her favorite activity was spending time outside whether it was in her garden or tending to her flowers. Laura and Roy spent a lot of time together dancing. They traveled to Strathcona, Middle River, and occasionally to Thief River Falls to hear good music and dance their favorite dance, the schottische. She also enjoyed dancing the polka with her sisters. Laura was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Newfolden. She is survived by her children: Geraldine (Richard) Dalbey, Jefferson, GA, and Orland (Laura) Roppe, Moorhead, MN; Grandchildren: Jennifer (Jerry) Henderson, Hoschton, GA; Nicholas (Natalie) Roppe of Lake Park, MN; Jillian (Scott) Smith of Canton, GA; and Gretchen (Lance) Johnson of Moorhead, MN. Nine great grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Lauren Henderson; Beckham, Keaton and Kai Roppe; Kaison and Ryder Smith; Zoey and Wyatt Johnson; sister: Harriet Kujava, Crookston, MN.; several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Laura is preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her parents; daughter Karen, in infancy; brother Lester Larson and sister Gladys Erickson.
