Ilene M. Johnson

Ilene M. Johnson was born in Strathcona, Minnesota, to the late Nels and Bertina (Olson) Strandberg on April 15, 1932. She attended school in Detroit, MI and later in Edina, MN before returning to the Strathcona community with her parents.

Ilene worked on the Conrad and Alma Olson farm for a while before being united in marriage to Glenn Johnson on December 23, 1950, at First Lutheran Church in Middle River. Two continued to make their home in the Strathcona community for a year.

Ilene and Glenn then moved to Stephen, MN in 1962, where she was employed with American Crystal Sugar as a lab technician for 10 years. She and Glenn then moved to Warroad, MN in 1977, where she worked for Marvin Windows and Doors and later to Grand Forks, ND in 1982 where she worked for Peggy’s Hallmark. She and Glenn moved to Fargo where they resided for five years before retiring and moving back to Warroad.

Glenn passed away July 12, 2016, and Ilene continued to make her home in Warroad until entering Northern Horizon Homes in Roseau on February 16, 2018, where she passed away at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 5 days.

Ilene was a past member for the American Legion Auxiliary Post in Stephen, First Lutheran Ladies Aid in Stephen and First Lutheran Church in Middle River. She enjoyed music, playing the organ, and spending time with her family and friends.

Ilene is survived by her daughter, Judy (Steven) Oxton of San Tan Valley, AZ; her son, Donny (Cheryl) Johnson of Roseau; grandchildren: Jesse Olson, Jayce (Emily), Adrian (Ashley), and Rory Oxton, Trever Johnson, Tommy (Jennifer) Gladowski, and Dawn Gladowski; Great Grandchild, Fiona Oxton; along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents;brothers Dile, Ervind and Blaine (in infancy), sistersin-law Odella Strandberg, Luella Strandberg and Josie Hanson; brothers-in-law Teddy Johnson and Norman Strandberg.

Funeral services were held at 11:00AM, Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at First Lutheran Church in Middle River.

Visitation was held after 6PM, Monday, at Collins Funeral Chapel in Middle River with a prayer service at 7PM. Visitation was also held one hour prior to services at the church.

Interment services were held at Greenwood Cemetery in Strathcona following services.
