Edward Lien

Edward Lien, of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away on May 19, 2021 at his home, at the age of 71.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at First Lutheran Cemetery in Middle River, MN, with Rev. Mary Lundquist officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Middle River Legion Post #444 and the Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Edward Alvin Lien was born on April 19, 1950 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Donald Emmett and Amelia Josephine (Anderson) Lien. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Ed attended school in Middle River, graduating from Middle River High School.

After graduation Ed enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Fort Lewis, WA, and Fort Hood, TX. Following his honorable discharge Ed came home to Middle River. He then attended college for carpentry at the AVTI in Thief River Falls.

In 1993 Ed was united in marriage to Jeanie Knutson. Together they made their home in Thief River Falls. Jeanie passed away in 1998.

Ed was blessed with two daughters, Faith in 1977 and Amanda in 1991.

Throughout the years Ed worked in carpentry, home construction, and as a handyman. In his earlier years he worked on the oil rigs in Idaho and Wyoming.

Woodworking, fixing on vehicles, and keeping in touch with friends were a few of Ed’s favorite pastimes. In his younger years he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson.

Ed was a member of the Hans Lian American Legion Post in Middle River, MN.

Ed is survived by his children, Faith Vigel of Walcot, WY, and Amanda McAllister of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Isabella Vigel and Samuel Sampson; sister, Debbie (Morlyn) Ornquist of Middle River, MN; niece, Jen (Chad) Erickson of Grand Forks, ND, and their children, Justice, Glen, and Michael; and many cousins, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by wife, Jeanie; parents, Donald and Amelia Lien; grandparents, Carl and Mary Anderson and Edward and Emma Lien.
