Delwin Delaine Jacobson

Delwin Delaine Jacobson, of Newfolden, MN, passed away on January 20, 2020.

Del was born on Dececember 7, 1938 to Oscar and Ruth Jacobson in Worthing SD, the youngest of five children, brothers Dale, Robert and Vernlyn, and sister Norma, all deceased.

He graduated from Worthing High School at the age of 17 and, in September of 1955, drove across country with his father to enroll in Seattle Pacific University. Upon graduation he began his teaching career in Battleground, Washington. When his father took ill he returned to the Midwest and taught 5th grade at Boydon Hull School in northwest Iowa. Del met his future wife, Ingrid Gerbholz of Calgary, Alberta, Canada at a North American Baptist youth conference in Banff, Alberta. They were married in 1965 and moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where Del taught at Hills Beaver Creek School and coached three different sports.

After their son Troy was born in 1967, Del worked part time at KNWC Christian radio in Sioux Falls as an announcer on the night shift. The family moved to Fargo, ND when Del secured a full time position at KFNW Christian radio station. He also worked part time for a janitorial services company in Fargo before securing the position of manager. In 1969 Del and Ingrid were blessed with a second son, Darin. Del worked as Director of Operations and Maintenance for the Fargo Public Schools for 18 years and eventually went back to teaching.

In 1994 they moved back to Washington, where Del taught at Life Christian School in Tacoma, then settled in Redding, California in 1997 when he began a career as Operations Manager at Simpson University. He retired after 10 years at Simpson.

Del was a faithful and devoted man of God, always active in his church, and a lifetime member of the Gideons. He volunteered his time at the Good News Rescue Mission at Redding.

In early November of 2019 Del moved to Newfolden. Ingrid remained in California to sell their home in Redding, and then planned to join Del in Newfolden. She spent from Thanksgiving to January 4 with Del, before returning to CA. While in Newfolden, Del was active at Westaker Free Lutheran Church and enjoyed fellowship there and with the Newfolden seniors at senior activities.

Del passed away in Newfolden, on January 20, 2020. He is survived by his wife Ingrid, Son Troy (Pamela) in California, and son Darin (Jessica) in Newfolden, grandchildren Caleb and Emily in CA, Ruby, Levi and Denny, in Newfolden, four sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and numerous nephews and nieces.

Memorial Services were held at Redding Christian Fellowship on Saturday, Feb 1, in Redding, California, and live streamed at Westaker Free Lutheran in Newfolden.
