Clayton Hagstrom

Clayton Jule Hagstrom was born on July 13, 1935 in Roseau, MN to Elmer and Ruth (Strandberg) Hagstrom.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Swedish Lutheran Church in Strathcona. He attended District 75, Sunny Side Country School and graduated from Greenbush High School. Following school Clayton entered the US Army in1958 and was honorably discharged in 1960.

Clayton worked construction in Grand Forks, Kansas and Montana. Upon returning to Strathcona Clayton went into the construction business with his brother Kenneth, forming H and S Construction Company, which they worked until selling and retiring in 1997.

Clayton continued to make his home on the farm where he passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 29, 2023 at the age of 88.

He was a longtime active member of the Middle River American Legion Post #444 for many years. His friends here were like his family, attending many hockey games with Brett Brandon.

Clayton is survived by 2 nephews Richard (Nancy) and Robert Hagstrom both of East Grand Forks, MN., and nieces Linda Moreland and Laurie Korth, along with many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Glen and Kenneth Hagstrom, sister Luella Hagstrom (in infancy), along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at First Lutheran Church in Middle River with Pastor Curt Johnson presiding. Nancy Johnson was the Organist providing music for the service.

Clayton’s Casket Bearers were Ken Beito, Mark Connelly, Kurt Hanson, Brett Brandon, Eric Olson and Guy Strandberg. Honorary Bearers were John Scheff, Wayne Hanson and Dave Christianson. Visitation was held one hour prior to services.

Interment services were held at Greenwood Cemetery in Strathcona with Military Honors accorded by the Middle River American Legion Post #444 and the Minnesota National Guard.

Fellowship was held at the Middle River American Legion following interment with the American Legion Auxiliary providing the meal.
