Meet Jason Cervantes

When Jason was questioned by the Honker, he did such a wonderful, thorough job that we will introduce Jason “IN HIS OWN WORDS.”

“I am a Deputy Sheriff in Marshall County and currently assigned to the Pine to Prairie Drug Task Force as a Narcotics Investigator. The Drug Task Force has 13 law enforcement officers that work in eight northwestern Minnesota counties with a focus on mid to upper-level dealers as well as violent crimes.

In June of 2006, I was hired by Marshall County Sheriff Herb Maurstad and moved to Middle River. With nearly 2 years of experience in law enforcement prior to being hired in Marshall County, I was confident with my abilities to police the community as Deputy Sheriff. But Sheriff Maurstad quickly changed my perspective on what serving a community is. At that time, I believed that law enforcement was supposed to enforce traffic violations and make arrests but after taking Sheriff Maurstad’s advice and guidance, I quickly learned that the role of a Deputy Sheriff is to serve a community and not just police it. Although the Marshall County Sheriff is now Jason Boman, he, too believes in similar aspects of performing our duties.
