Middle River Veterans Outdoors Receives Solar Grant

A grant was requested by the Middle River Veterans Outdoors organization to the Minnesota Extension Resilient Sustainable Development Partnership. The project plan listed on application for this grant reads as follows:

“We want to install solar power to our facility on the outskirts of Middle River. We need to be able to maintain the batteries on two electric, tracked wheelchairs and have power for occasional use of lights. This would instill a sense of pride and progress in our community which has lost two major business activities in the last two years. Having a light on our American Flag on the building is uplifting and portrays a sense of pride and patriotism for area residents. It would also demonstrate to others the potential for solar power for other buildings that currently do not have electric power. Another goal is to track reliability so other entities and partners can have some local verifiable data to determine if they want to pursue solar power for other uses such as remote sites on farms, hunting and vacation cabins, city street lights etc.”
