Middle River Memorial Day Speaker Announced

Arnold N Gordon-Bray, Brigadier General, US Army (Retired) Brigadier General Arnold N. Gordon-Bray has spent over three decades in service to this Nation as not just an exemplary officer and Infantryman, but as a dedicated servant to his communities; every single one in which he has stayed. To that end, we are privileged and honored to announce that this remarkable man will be speaking at the Legacy Center for this year’s Middle River Memorial Day remembrance ceremony.

General Gordon-Bray envisioned himself as a leader in combat from childhood, and ultimately joined the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) while pursuing an art degree at the University of Central Missouri. Worth noting – General Gordon-Bray was an award-winning artist. Thankfully for the Army, he was also “a natural infantryman,” as his ROTC instructor would state, and although initially he only joined for the 2 years of necessary service, three decades later he cannot imagine his life as anything else.

It is important to recognize that General Gordon-Bray’s military career began at a time when African American faces in military leadership positions were scarce. Indeed, they had not been permitted until after 1947. In his graduating class of 1978, in fact, there were only seven. As such, Gordon-Bray broadens the perspective of service into a spectrum of experience whenever he is afforded an opportunity to share his thoughts and his stories with others. Passionate about empowerment and education, rare is the individual who comes into Gordon-Bray’s orbit less enlightened than they were going in.
