Post 88/444 Legion Baseball Wins Four of Five to Start Season

The Post 88/444 Gators Legion has started the summer season on a strong note winning their first four out of five games. The Gators return five Super Seniors from last season, as well as a solid group from this past spring ball season. “The team has come together well, we have picked up where we left off last year which is good to see, it’s good to see these guys playing together again.” Said the teams Manager/Coach John Wilebski Jr.

The Gators first faced rival Stephen-Argyle a game which was played on June 14th, last summer the Gators eliminated Stephen-Argyle from the District Tournament after a walk-off home run. Isaac Mills took the mound for Stephen-Argyle while Derek Knutson took the bump for the Gators. Post 88/444 threatened early in the first inning after an early error by Stephen-Argye, however Isaac Mills retired the Gator threat. Stephen-Argyle struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Mills helped his cause hitting a three-run homerun over the left field fence to take the lead. Mills pitched well for his team collecting seven strikeouts in the contest and only allowing two hits in the ball game. Knutson was injured in the bottom of the second after taking a batted ball off his arm, he was replaced by Ben Lieberg. Lieberg pitched well for Post 88/444 until early season fatigue set in and he allowed four runs in the bottom of the fifth. The final score was 7-0 in favor of Stephen-Argyle.

Post 88/444 was back in action on June 15th when they played host to the Karlstad/Newfolden Rabbits at Borgen Field in Greenbush. Trever Robinson was given the ball for game one of the double header, he faced Rabbit ace Emmitt Lefrooth. Skyler Forst sparked the Gators early, launching a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first to give his team a 1-0 lead. Post 88/444 added two more runs in the inning with the help of a single by Gator outfielder Keegan Rustad and some untimely errors by the Rabbits. Timely hits by the Gators along with untimely errors by the Rabbits put the Gators up 7-0 and that would be the final score. Robinson pitched well in his season debut, allowing only two hits and collecting nine strikeouts in the complete game shutout.
