13th Annual Diane Brumwell Memorial “Hoops for Hope” Basketball Tournament and Silent Auction

It has turned into more than an annual basketball tournament - it has evolved into a reunion of good friends, a time to make new friends, a family reunion, a time to have fun playing hoops, and most importantly, a mission to battle cancer. It is “Hoops for Hope” held at the Robert Matzek gymnasium in Red Lake Falls.

In 2006 Ryan and Jason Brumwell played in the Superball Tournament in Lancaster with some friends. This was a fundraiser for the ACS Relay for Life, which their family had recently joined when their mom was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer. They played in their second tournament as their mother was battling her second bout of cancer, a tumor surrounding her femoral artery. Following that tournament, the brothers decided to host their own tournament to assist in the cancer battle.
