Fall Planting of Perennials

Fall is a great time to add perennials to your garden. Planted at this time of the year and they will establish roots and get a head start on next year.

Planting is basically the same for perennials planted in spring or fall. Fertilization with a soluble plant food when setting out the plants will aid in establishing the roots. Do no fertilize again until spring. Water thoroughly at planting time and during prolonged hot, dry spells. Too much watering can cause succulent growth the will not be winter hardy. Never water late in the fall so roots are standing in water when the soil freezes.
