Olive Elvina Olson was born October 13, 1942 daughter of Gilbert and Beatrice (Johnson) Olson at home in Marshall County, near Middle River, MN. She attended country school for one year and then attended school in Middle River. Olive worked at Hartz in Thief River Falls in 1960.

Beverly Holm

Beverly Jean Stenberg was born July 24, 1930 at Greenbush, MN, the oldest of three children to Arthur Selmer and Myrtle Olive (Paulson) Stenberg. She was baptized September 21, 1930 by Pastor E. Bonnevie Kluver and confirmed on June 18, 1944 by Pastor E.E. Tollefson at Pauli Lutheran Church in rural Greenbush. She graduated from Greenbush

Nathalia Orpen

Nathalia Ann (Nordlund) Orpen was born on June 11, 1932, in Strathcona, MN to Richard and Mabel Nordlund. Nathalia graduated from Greenbush High School and later worked there as the school secretary. On August 19, 1956, Nathalia married Leo Benjamin Orpen and joined him in Babbit, MN where he was working in the iron mines. In 1957 they came back to the farm near Thief Lake where Leo had grown up, purchased it from his parents, and spent the next 48 years raising sheep, cattle, and small grains. Besides keeping busy with farm work, Nathalia raised her four children, sewed most of their clothes, gardened, canned, and was active in her church and community. She kept her children involved in 4-H, teaching them many valuable skills as a county leader. Nathalia and Leo were long time members of United Lutheran Church of Gatzke where Nathalia taught Sunday School, served in the Ladies Aid and other capacities. After retiring from the farm in 2005, they moved into Middle River and joined First Lutheran Church. In both churches and communities, Nathalia was well known for her quilting skills. She sewed many quilts for World Relief, for Goose Festival raffles, and of course, for her children and grandchildren. Nathalia served Moose River Township in the role of clerk for 55 years and was also treasurer of the East Marshall Co. Farmers Union. Nathalia and Leo enjoyed 62 years of married life together, which included more than just hard work and community service. Nathalia hosted countless gatherings of family, neighbors, deer hunters, and friends at her kitchen table for meals, coffee, conversation, and games. When the kids were young, they enjoyed family vacations and traveled as far as Washington, D.C. After the kids had grown, Leo and Nathalia traveled to Hawaii and even Australia to visit their former neighbors and friends, Marc and Bonnie Thompson.

Brady Lee

Brady Thomas Lee was born January 19, 1996 at Grand Forks, ND son of Jason Lee and Denae (Mjelde) Bayne. He was raised in the Newfolden area and attended school at Marshall County Central. Brady started working at the age of 11 for Grandpa Lee at Lee Concrete Construction. He earned his first pickup truck by cutting wood for his Grandpa Tom. Then he worked at Napa Auto in Thief River Falls, then went to ILS – Independent Locomotive Service of Holt and has spent the last 7 years at Central Boiler.

Delores Wiskow

Delores Wiskow

Delores Mae (Dolla) was born September 20, 1942, to Martin and Selma (Karvonen) Ness at home in Cedar Township in rural Middle River. She attended school in Middle River where Delores and her siblings would walk 2 miles to school. They would have to do chores prior to going to school. She graduated in 1960 from the school in Middle River. At the age of 17 she met Harf Wiskow. On October 8, 1960, they were married in Strandquist, MN. They had one child, Mae in 1961. They raised both beef and dairy cattle. In 1970 they sold the beef cattle as Harf’s asthma was worsening. Delores and Harf enjoyed snocatting, hunting, bonfires, playing cards, birthdays and visiting with friends and neighbors. They continued to dairy farm until eventually their daughter, Mae and husband Phil took over the farm. Delores always helped on the farm: milking, feeding, bedding straw, delivering calves, raking hay, driving her 4-wheeler to get the cows to the barn for milking time, clean the bulk tank, wherever help was needed she went.
