Jim Frederick, 69, of Strathcona, MN, died unexpectedly on Friday, November 17, 2017, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. James Nelson Frederick was born on June 1, 1948, in St. Paul, MN, to Raymond and Grace (Nelson) Frederick. After his mother finished beauty school, the family moved to Warren, MN, where Jim would spend his childhood, living for several years above the beauty parlor. During the summers, Jim would stay with his aunt and uncle on their farm near Strathcona and he grew to love the area. He graduated from Warren High School in 1966, and was married to Mynette Copp on December 3rd of that year. Jim worked as a contractor and raised his children in Warren. In the late 1970's, he began working at Cenex, and would retire from there after working in several different positions. Jim was married to Kyle Avinson on February 14, 1992. He always made a point to spend time in the woods, and built himself a hunting cabin in “the Swamp” in the 1980's, eventually adding on and converting it into his home in 2006. He enjoyed the simple life; being around nature, feeding and watching the deer, serving on the East Park Township Board, joining in the Middle River Sportsmen's Club events, relaxing during Happy Hour, and having Sunday NASCAR gatherings with his friends. Jim is survived by his children. Michelle (Davy) Riopelle of Baudette, MN, Christopher (Rebecca) Frederick of Tuscon, AZ, and Teresa (Michael) Magnuson of Clayton, WI, and their mother, Mynette Kolnes; grandchildren, Ian Tibert, Nathan Johnson, Parker Riopelle, Ashley (Matt) Ercoli, Tessa (fiance, Colton Kershner) Frederick, and Mitchell, Alexandra, Isabelle, and Michael J. Magnuson; sister, Marlene (Red) Plank of Zephyr Hills, FL; girlfriend, Cecelia “Tootsie” Swenson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts, and uncles. A memorial gathering was held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, from 3:00-5:00 PM, in DuBore Funeral Home, Warren, MN.
