Emma Clarinda Anderson, daughter of the late Arnie and Nettie (Hoff) Borreson, was born July 11, 1925 on the home farm near Strathcona, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at the Poplar Grove Church near Strathcona. She attended school in the one room schoolhouse in Strathcona through the 8th grade and then worked at home helping on the family farm until she began working as a waitress at the Nelson Café in Roseau, MN. Emma married Roy Anderson on November 29, 1950. Together they raised 4 daughters: Rose (Eugene) Olmstead of Badger; Jean (Tim) Bahr of Bemidji; Sally (Robbie) Carlson of Strandquist; and Peggy (Barry) Skoglund of Thief River Falls. The couple operated a small farm near Gatzke. Emma, along with her husband Roy, maintained a number of cemeteries in the Gatzke, Middle River and Strathcona communities throughout the years by mowing and trimming. Emma was a long time member of United Lutheran Church of Gatzke and currently a member of First Lutheran Church of Middle River. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and Sewing Circle in each of the churches. Emma had a talent for sewing. She sewed the majority of the dresses for her daughters throughout their grade-school years. She was also a great quilter. She has made quilts for all her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as assisting with quilting at both the Gatzke and Middle River churches. Her other hobbies included gardening, canning, making jelly, square dancing, “old time” dancing and snowmobiling. She and her husband Roy spent nine winters in Harlingen, TX. Her biggest joy was spending time with her eight grandchildren: Kendall (Tarah) Olmstead, Nolan Olmstead, Melissa (Dustin) Keller, Michael (Nicolle) Carlson, Stephanie (Ryan) Eggerud, Stacy (Tim) Granum, Alyssa (Abe) Abrahamson, and Justin Skoglund. Her great grandchildren include Cody Swenson, Tabor and Emma Keller, Zachary Carlson, and Sydni, Noah, Zophi and Auggie Eggerud. Step Grandchildren (Kendall’s) Teagon and Spencer, (Mike’s) Ariella and Hunter, and (Stephanie’s) Kyler. She is survived by her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister-in-law Mae Borreson, numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roy; brothers Bennie, Albert and Ingvald Borreson, and sister Annie Foss; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Hilda and Edwin Strong; niece Patricia Bubb; and great grandson Jaecob Eggerud. Services celebrating the life of Emma C. Anderson (July 11, 1925 – November 6, 2017) were held at 11 A.M. Saturday, November 11, 2017 at First Lutheran Church in Middle River, Minnesota, with Pastor Cheryl Berg, Officiant. Special music was provided by Lois & Lois, and Lois Peterson served as organist. Emma’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren served as casket bearers. Interment is in Moose River Cemetery at Gatzke, Minnesota.
