Elaine Carrie Ekman

Elaine Ekman, 91, Newfolden, MN, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020 at Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Per CDC guidelines, no more than 10 people will be allowed at a time. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden. A service to celebrate Elaine’s life will be held at a later date at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden.

Elaine Carrie Larson was born April 7, 1929 in Foldahl Township, Marshall County, MN the daughter of Edward and Minnie (Olson) Larson. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. Elaine attended country school through the eighth grade.

Elaine was united in marriage to Virgil Ekman on August 30, 1948 in Newfolden, MN. They made their home in the Newfolden area and to this union four sons were born, Glen, Larry, Mark and Daryl. Elaine loved her time at home when her children were growing up on the farm. She also worked in the potato fields for many years.

She enjoyed yard work, taking care of the farm animals, the wild deer, and the cats. Elaine loved animals. She was very kind, caring, small in stature and not afraid to speak her mind.

She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN and active with the Ladies Aid.

Survivors include sons, Mark (Helen) Ekman, Daryl (Jackie) Ekman; grandchildren, Tammy, Shery, Jeremy, Christopher, Brenda, Amanda, Nicole, David and Heather; numerous great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Virgil in 1995; sons, Glen in 2018 and Larry in 2020; twin sister, Ella and older sister, Clara. Family condolences may be sent to www.johnsonfuneralservice.com
