Mayo Reck, 75

Mayo Reck, 75

Mayo Reck was born on March 02, 1950 to Myron (Dick) Reck and Grace (Burt) Reck. He lived in Mentor and worked on the family farm before getting married and buying a farm of his own. Mayo married Diane McVey on July 5, 1975, and they celebrated their fiftieth anniversary this year. In addition to farming, Mayo also did carpentry, working on framing houses.

In 1985 Mayo and his family moved to St. Paul where he continued framing. Mayo and his brother, Milo, created their own interior trim company, MR Construction. They enjoyed the freedom of being their own boss and taking jobs that they wanted to work on. Mayo was proud of his work and would occasionally take his family on the Parade of Homes tour to show them some of the houses that he worked on.

When Mayo was not at work, you could find him at home working in his yard. He enjoyed working outside no matter what the season. He was very particular about how to mow the grass and fought a never-ending battle with his nemesis: weeds. In December, Mayo was the king of exterior illumination. He decorated the front lawn with snowmen, trees, and hung lights from the eaves.

Mayo also enjoyed vacationing in nature. For many years, he would go to a cabin on a lake and enjoy fishing and just listen to the peace and quiet of the surroundings. He not only shared this experience with his wife but with his daughters and grandchildren as well. Mayo also enjoyed vacations to Hawaii and Alaska.

In April 2025, Mayo was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia. This was a surprise for his entire family. Mayo was unable to go home and moved into the memory care unit at Village Shores in Richfield, Minnesota. While at Village Shores, Mayo participated in Stretch and Sing, Bingo, Craft Activities, Monthly Birthday Celebrations, and additional music programs that were brought in. Mayo loved music and he found all of the musicbased activities very enjoyable. His wife, Diane and daughters Kristy and Heather visited him often. His grandchildren Tyler and Anaya visited him as well. The whole family was together for a Halloween party that the Reflections community held a week before Halloween. Mayo’s brothers and sister also made the treck to St. Paul to visit him as well.

Mayo passed away on October 30, 2025. He was preceded in death by his father, Myron (Dick) Reck, his sisters Claudia Reck and Georgene (Reck) Corbet, his brother-inlaw Doug Corbet, and sister-inlaw Sue Reck.

Mayo is survived by his wife Diane (McVey) Reck, daughters Kristy and Heather Reck, grandson Tyler Reck and granddaughter Anaya Reck. Mother, Grace (Burt) Reck, brothers Milton (Milt) and Milo Reck, sister-in-law Marilee Reck, sister Michelle (Shelly Reck) Richard, brother–in-law Tim Richard. Mayo also leaves behind nephews Kurt, Chris, Shannon, and Grant as well as his niece Ashley and their families.

A private burial will take place at Lakeshore Cemetery in Minneapolis and a Celebration of Life gathering will be held at The Lexington restaurant in St. Paul for family and close friends.
