Gloria Brule, 92

Gloria Brule, 92

Gloria Ann Brule, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the home of her daughter Vickie, surrounded by love. She was 92.

Lives Remembered

Born on February 3, 1933, to Melvin Julius Olson and Alphild (Martinson) Olson, Gloria entered the world under extraordinary circumstances. Born prematurely, she was initially thought to be stillborn. But a vigilant nurse saw signs of life and lovingly nursed her to health, even strapping Gloria to her body to act as a human incubator. That nurse remained a cherished presence in Gloria’s life, visiting her throughout her childhood.

Gloria graduated from Barron High School in 1951. After losing both parents by the age of 19, she moved to Minneapolis and shared an apartment with her high school girlfriends. She began her working life at Brown and Biglow as a file clerk and later held positions at a bank and UniVAC, where she wired computers—an impressive feat for the time.

In 1954, Gloria married Victor P. Schleiss, and together they welcomed a daughter, Vickie, in 1956. After their marriage ended, Gloria raised Vickie on her own in Minneapolis for 12 years, working tirelessly to provide a loving home.

On New Year’s Eve 1969, a friend convinced Gloria to go out—a rare occasion. That night, she met the love of her life, Roland P. Brule. They married on January 30, 1971, and Gloria moved to a farm near Red Lake Falls, MN. Together, they built a beautiful life and welcomed three more children: Brian (1972), Brenda (1973), and Cheryl (1974).

Gloria and Roland ran a flea market business called “Treasure Town,” where they delighted in meeting people from all walks of life. Gloria also sold Avon and worked for many years at Riverview Nursing Home in Crookston. She was deeply proud to become a certified nursing assistant through the University of Minnesota in Crookston. Caring for others came naturally to her—she had a gentle spirit and a heart full of compassion.

Gloria’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a longtime member of Dorothy Catholic Church, where she served as Eucharistic Minister and taught Sunday School by nurturing the spiritual growth of young parishioners. After moving to Thief River Falls, she continued

her service at St. Bernard Catholic Church by participating in Adoration, offering quiet devotion and prayer. Her commitment to her faith was evident in the way she lived—with humility, generosity, and grace. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Roland P. Brule, and her parents. She is survived by her children: Vickie (Noel) Johnson, Brian Brule, Brenda (Carl) Schindler, and Cheryl (John) Mecham; grandchildren: Laura Baird Bravo (Rick Zak), Keith (Amberly) Baird, Kayla Brule, Kristie Brule, Brooke Mecham, Isaac, and Jacob Schindler; eight great-grandchildren; her brother Rodney (Victoria) Olson; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN, with Father Bob Schreiner officiating. Burial will follow at Dorothy Cemetery in Dorothy, MN.

Gloria’s life was a testament to strength, kindness, and unwavering love. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched.
