Aldyne Lindahl Salmi

Aldyne Lindahl Salmi

Aldyne Lindahl Salmi died on March 31 in Ocean Springs, MS.

The youngest child of William and Emma Lindahl, Aldyne was born on January 11, 1930, in Newfolden, Minnesota. She was baptized in Bethlehem Lutheran church as an infant and was later confirmed in Middle River following instruction from Marie Phillipson at First Lutheran Church.

The Lindahls moved several times as the family was growing. They always adapted well to their new residences and became active in their communities. Aldyne started school in Newfolden.

When she was in second grade, the family moved to Thief River Falls where she attended Northrop and Knox schools. In 1940, the family moved to Middle River where she graduated from high school. Over the years, Aldyne made many visits back to the community to visit friends and family and to attend Middle River High School reunions.

Music was a big part of the Lindahl household. Aldyne began piano lessons in Thief River Falls. Middle River had no piano teacher when the family first moved there; Aldyne’s teacher traveled by train to give lessons. These lessons fostered a lifetime of ensemble playing and accompanying singing groups in many different settings. Aldyne furthered her education at MacPhail College of Music in Minneapolis and studied music theory with Eric Ziesl at Los Angeles City College.

Aldyne eventually settled in Waukegan, Illinois, where she married Richard Salmi in 1967. Later she and Richard welcomed their daughter Leah into their lives. Aldyne, once again, was active in at the keyboard as she accompanied groups at Trinity Lutheran Church. In 1993, Richard and Aldyne retired to Daphne, Alabama, where they traveled and enjoyed social and cultural events with the friends they made in the area. In 2023, Richard’s poor health prompted a move to Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

Aldyne was preceded in death by Richard later in 2023. Also preceding her in death were her parents, her five siblings, and her stepson Russell Salmi.

She is survived by daughter, Leah Salmi; son-in-law, Edward Aldridge III, MD; grandson, Edward Aldridge IV; stepgranddaughter, Samantha Jo Salmi; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
