A Sure Sign of Spring!

A Sure Sign of Spring!

Mardy Anderson and Sue Helm were at the reins as the clippity clop of horse hooves filled the brisk spring air on the streets of Middle River over the weekend. Mardy said it was a trial run for the parade route coming up soon during the annual Treats To Treatments event over Labor Day. We know Mardy tried to sound “all business” but we also know that the ride was a lot of enjoyment for all riders! Mark your calendars for Labor Day TTT!

“Coming Home” to a Legacy...

“Coming Home” to a Legacy...

It was a sentimental journey for sisters Linda (Hanson) Nordin of Cambridge, MN and Margaret (Hanson) Miron of Princeton, MN, as they met to spend some time in their hometown of Middle River. They are the daughters of the late Isabelle and Herb Hanson. Isabelle was a former librarian at the school and also served as city mayor for several years. They were some of the first guests of the new Schoolhouse B & B, the former Middle River school. (Left) Linda (MRHS Class of 1970) prepares coffee in the former Home Economics classroom where she first learned to cook with instruction from teacher, Marge Espe, in the 60s. Linda went on to earn a degree in food service management at the University of Minnesota Crookston. She appreciated being able to complete 10,000 steps per day inside the Legacy Center or on the nearby paved walking path. She is looking forward to returning to the Legacy Center in July for her 50th class reunion. (Right) Margaret (MRHS Class of 1976) enjoyed a relaxing Saturday morning while staying at the Legacy Center. She also carried on from her school background as she went on to serve as a Business Education instructor. Welcome home, Linda and Margaret! Check next week’s Honker for an update on all the exciting happenings at the Middle River Legacy Center.
