Amanda Olson Completes Master’s Degree

Amanda (Gram) Olson of Middle River has completed a lifetime goal as she has obtained her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Minnesota State University Moorhead on May 15, 2020.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Speech Language and Hearing Sciences in the spring of 2018, also at MSUM, while working two part-time jobs for the majority of her coursework. She was an office assistant at the MSUM Speech Language and Hearing Clinic while she completed her undergraduate degree, and a graduate assistant for the clinical director for the MSUM Speech Language and Hearing Clinic. She also worked part-time as a direct support professional for Creative Care for Reaching Independence, a nonprofit company in Moorhead that provides in-home support for people with disabilities.

This past summer, she completed a part-time internship placement at Pediatric Partners Clinic, a private practice in Fargo that provides SLP, OT, PT, and other services to children who need it. This spring semester, she completed her full-time internship at Sanford Health in Fargo with out-patient rehabilitation. Throughout the last two years she also wrote a thesis titled “LSVT or SPEAKOUT!(R): Clinical Decisions when Treating Clients with Parkinson’s Disease.” This research studied the process SLPs use when selecting a treatment approach for his or her clients with Parkinson’s.
