Deborah Matero Zak Retires from U of M Extension

Middle River hometown girl, Deb Zak, retired from the University of Minnesota Extension on September 30 of this year after a long, loyal and distinguished career there.

Deb graduated in 1971 from Middle River High School. During high school,she was active in band, Future Homemakers of America and the yearbook staff. Sports were not an option in those days for the girls!

Following graduation, Deb attended the University of North Dakota where she earned a B.S. degree in Vocational Home Economics Education. She was student teaching in Lincoln High School when she heard about an opening for a Home Economist in the University of Minnesota Pennington County Extension Office.

Deb applied for the position, was offered an interview and a position that started in March, 1977. She remained in that position for twenty years.
