Gifts and Candlelight: St. Nicholas Day and St. Lucia Day in the North

December in northern Minnesota has a way of pressing in on a person. The sun slides low, shadows stretch across the snow, and entire days feel like twilight. Yet this is also the month when our communities shine the brightest—through porch lights left on for neighbors, school concerts that fill gymnasiums with families, and the traditions we keep year after year.
