Middle River Yesteryears

In last week’s article, I began the story of R.D.V. Carr, an early pioneer of Middle River, and the owner of the very first local newspaper. He settled in the Breese area of Cedar Township in 1903, beginning an early version of his newspaper, “The Pioneer”, there, as many people believed the railroad would be running through that area, establishing a townsite. To the people’s dismay, the townsite would instead be settled two miles to the west, necessitating all the business people to literally pick up their buildings and move to town.
