By Coach Christian Wanting to win any tournament or playoff they are in, the BGMR Gator Softball Team picked up a third place finish on a beautiful Saturday in Greenbush. The Gators opened tournament play with a 21-3 victory over Crookston, had a disappointing 4-3 loss to Blackduck and took out their frustration with a 20-1 win against Warroad.
Having gotten home late the night before from their games in Moorhead the Gators seemed to be sleeping for the first couple innings against Crookston. The Pirates would lead 3-2 going into the bottom of the second when the Gators finally woke up and exploded for 14 runs.
BGMR would add 5 more runs in the third and would hold defensively in the top of the fourth to end the game via 15 run rule.
Gator starting pitcher Kailey Hanson would throw all 4 innings. Hanson gave up 3 runs, 1 which was earned, on 4 hits and 6 walks. Hanson would also strike out 6 batters.
Offensively BGMR would have 12 hits. Jaci Hanson would lead the charge with 3 hits. Kailey Hanson, Teagan Landsrud, and Sierra Landsrud would each get 2 hits.

BGMR would face an ever improving Blackduck team in their second game of pool play. The Drakes would score 2 runs in the first and scored one more in each of the fourth and sixth innings. Meanwhile BGMR could not get on track offensively leaving nine runners on base. The back breaking inning was in the fifth as the Gators trailed 30 but managed to load the bases with no outs and their 1, 2, and 3 hitters coming up. The Drakes would buckle down and get out of the inning without allowing a run which doomed the Gators. BGMR had the tying run on third base and the go ahead run on second base with two outs in the seventh inning but again the Drakes would stymie BGMR and pull out the victory.
Gator starting pitcher Jaci Hanson had massive control problems to start the game as she would walk 4 and hit a batter. Kailey Hanson would relieve Jaci in the first and did a nice job striking out 10. Kailey however would surrender 5 hits and walked 7.
Offensively BGMR would hit some balls hard but right at the Drake defenders who made some nice plays. Quinn Vacura had two hits for the Gators.

With the loss to Blackduck and Blackduck’s win over Crookston the Gators would face Warroad in the third place game. Playing in the third place game can be disheartening for any team but BGMR took out their anger on the Warriors. BGMR would score 3 runs in the first and after Warroad scored 1 run in their half of the second BGMR drilled the Warriors for 16 runs in the Gator half of the second. The Gators tacked on 1 more run in the third and would not allow another Warrior to score ending the game via 15 run rule after 3 ½ innings.
Gator starting pitcher Jaci Hanson rebounded from a tough start the previous game and would throw all 4 innings. Hanson would allow only 1 unearned run, on 2 hits and 5 walks. Jaci would strike out 3.
Offensively BGMR was led by McKenzie Dahl who had 2 hits which included a home run. Also getting 2 hits were Teagan Landsrud, Quinn Vacura, and Sierra Landsrud. Joining Dahl in the home run club was speedster Quynn Washington who had an inside the park homerun.
The Gators would like to take this time to thank all those parents who worked concessions and helped with field prep on Saturday. It takes a village to run a tournament and as usual Gator Nation stepped up.
