Elton Underdahl

Elton Underdahl, 85, of Newfolden, MN passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Westaker Free Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN with Pastor Phil Rokke officiating. Military honors were provided by Hans Lian American Legion Post 444. Burial will be at Westaker Cemetery in the spring.

Elton Ernest Underdahl was born March 20, 1933 at home in Strathcona, MN the son of Sigward and Cynthia (Kneeskreen) Underdahl. He was baptized on November 25, 1956 and confirmed on April 14, 1957 in Viking, MN at Zion Lutheran Church. He attended Evan 150th School through the 8th grade.

Elton was drafted into the United States Army on June 16, 1953 and traveled to Georgia for basic training at Camp Gordon, then to Texas where he served at Ft. Hood. Elton was Honorably Discharged on May 23, 1955.

On August 20, 1955, Elton was united in marriage to Yvonne Nelson at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. To this union eight children were born and they made their home near Viking. Elton worked for a house mover the first year and then two years for a local farmer. Elton bought his first caterpillar in 1958 and operated a construction business for 45 years.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Elton loved dancing, listening to music and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of Westaker Free Lutheran Church in Newfolden and the Hans Lian American Legion Post 444 in Middle River.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Yvonne of Newfolden, MN; children, Ronalda (Jeff King) Benton, Linsay (Rodney) Hagenbeck, Marcy (Robert) Larson, Tawna (Mike Rehm) McGregor, Shawn Underdahl, Cynseri (Dean) Peterson; 18 grandchildren, Michelle Berard, Scott Tuura, Chelsey Underdahl, Candace Wilmore, Gabe Hagenbeck, Christina Stoa, Annie Wood, Amanda Dux, Jason McGregor, Arrie Klasen, Jacey McGregor, Chris, Tyler & Karley Underdahl, Cody Peters, Dillon Peterson, Cierra Rehm, Destiny Peterson; 31 great-grandchildren; brother, Curt Underdahl; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by two sons, Brian and Avin Underdahl; granddaughter, Chesney Peterson; parents; four brothers; one sister; and father & mother-inlaw, Edward and Helga Nelson. Condolences may be sent at www.johnsonfuneralservice.com
