Elaine Peterson

Elaine Esther Peterson, the daughter of the late Earl and Agnes (Abrahamson) Cleaveland, was born on September 27, 1939, in Golden Valley Township, Roseau County, near Wannaska, MN. She attended school and grew to womanhood in the Skime, MN, community, and graduated from Roseau High School in 1958.

On May 31, 1958, Elaine was united in marriage to Erick (“Buddy”) Peterson at Skime. In 1961, they came to Spruce Valley Township near Middle River and later moved to their farm in Thief Lake Township, also near Middle River, where they farmed for many years. Erick passed away January 14, 1985, and Elaine continued her home on the farm until 2005 when she moved into Middle River. She was employed from the Fall of 1984 until October of 2004 as a cook at the Middle River School until her health forced her retirement. Elaine successfully managed her Parkinson’s Disease for 17 years.

She was a member of the Middle River American Legion Auxiliary. She was previously a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Thief Lake and later attended First Lutheran Church in Middle River. For the past two years she has resided at Life Care Roseau Manor in Roseau where she passed away on Wednesday evening, Dec. 19, 2018, at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 22 days.

She is survived by one daughter: Lisa (Greg) Sorensen, of Roseau; three sons: Mike, of Newfolden; Sheldon (Gail), of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Dean (Cynseri), of Middle River; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister: Ilena (Dennis) Sistad, of Fosston, MN; foster sister: Hilda Wiskow, of Roseau; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one daughter; Pam in 2005; granddaughter: Chesney Peterson in 2002; and two sisters: Clarice and Margaret.

Services celebrating the life of Elaine E. Peterson were held at 10am on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at First Lutheran Church in Middle River, with Pastor Mary Lundquist officiating. Brianna Geer served as the organist. Casket bearers were Cody Peters, Dillon Peterson, Cole Peterson, Erick Peterson, Randy Cwikla and Frank Froysland. Interment was in Spruce Valley Cemetery, Middle River, Minnesota.
