Roger and Pam Nelson

Roger and Pam Nelson drove in their yard about 6.30 pm on Tuesday, May 24th, to find a mother bear and two cubs high in an oak tree in their yard. It appeared they were eating, either acorns or buds off the trees. They had seen a bear in the yard several times last summer and fall and have been wondering if this bear was still in the area. They aren’t sure if this is the same one, but it was a wakeup call for them! They won’t be out wandering around the yard without a vehicle close by. With the late planting this year there is not much for them to eat, but they had no idea the extent they would go to survive until the grain is ready. The two dark spots at the top of the tree are the cubs.

Any car traveling past the MCC School on Friday, May 6, may have done a double-take as there was a multitude of emergency vehicles on the scene as the MCC students were given a lesson on the consequences of drinking and driving. The Newfolden Fire Department and Tri-County EMS were on hand to demonstrate how the area First Responders perform when they respond to an accident. Five student actors also participated in the event - juniors Ava Audette, Jeri Lee and Gavin Hockstedler and seniors Reese Rustad and Gage Hockstedler. MCC is very appreciative to the area emergency crews for their willingness to make this happen.
