“Quilts Of Honor”

“Quilts Of Honor”

Melanie Boe, along with Braxton Boe, Nicole Homme, and Eylie Homme represented Newfolden Grateful Hearts Quilts of Valor Foundation at the Veteran’s Day Program in Newfolden.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation is a national organization founded in 2003 by “Blue Star” mom Catherine Roberts. With a son deployed in Iraq—a “Gunner” sitting atop a Humveeshe felt “ten seconds away from panic” twenty-four hours a day. One night she dreamed of a post-deployment warrior struggling with his war demons at two o’clock in the morning. She saw him sitting on the side of his bed, wrapped in a quilt. The quilt comforted him and fended off the “war demons” that troubled him. From this vision, the Quilts of Valor Foundation began.

As of November 11th, Quilts of Valor has presented 234,519 quilts to those touched by war, and, that morning two quilts were presented to two members of the Newfolden community.
